Default An increase in food means an increase in population.

World Food & Human Population Growth

Watch that slide show. It's a half hour, but I thought it was very cool.

Trumps things like demographic transitions, and propose a way to end starvation: by decreasing food production.

Discuss why you agree or disagree on this thread, but be prepared to back your opinion up.

decreasing food supply would not end starvation.

We do need to decrease food supply though, in america at least. We use up too much land to import food to other countries. Screw that. There's no money in food. We need to go back to making goods and get away from food and services. That's stuff that 3rd world countries provide. Instead of making a bunch of food for Africa for instance, we need high tech farm engineers to go over there and help them sustain their own population by planting crops that are good against drought, help with irrigation, and good stuff like that. Many of the african tribes over there are archaic compared to the ancient egyptians of 5-6 thousand years ago that mastered techniques like irrigation. Granted, they had the Nile, but we can drill wells and stuff nowadays which they couldn't. "Sending aid" like food doesn't benefit our country in any way, and its only temporary relief to the countries we do send to, so we have to keep doing it.

In truth, after one generation it absolutely would.

Our food production makes more food than is required to support our current population. Distribution issues are what get in the way, but those aren't going to go away.

But I was kind of mistaken in bringing that up - that's not what this slide shows actually about.

Decreasing food production also stabilizes population growth, which does all kinds of neat stuff, improving standards of living - including starvation, stopping most environmental devastation, global warming....

Interestingly enough, I don't think that starving people would cause this.

No, it's people trying to compensate for starvation and an increased population by increasing food production that does it. But this just leads to more people, and more starvation...

That is probably because the increase in food production happens in the wrong areas, ie where there already is enough food and not where food is scarce and people starve. The next factor is food redistribution and economics. Population growth is not only linked to the volume of food produced, but also on the access to this food.

(There is more to it, but now I'm off to work...)

This man knows what he's talking about. Plus a lot of our "food" production, especially in Illinios, is used as a fuel source now. It actually pays better to sell corn crops as ethanol. Eventually we're going to see a lot of our food sources start getting used up for biofuels.

Decreasing food production isn't the real thing.

I would say that decreasing it in Europe/America, and increasing it in africa is the real way. We are drowning in food, but we can't eat it, and we can't ship it down.

Unlike most liberals, socialists and commies, I believe the more people the merrier. I don't go running around with my hands in the air worrying about the increasing population. I see it as a good sign, I'd be more worried if our population decreased.
