Default Rule changes

We have begun going over the rules that are currently in place. We've focused on a couple so far, and some changes have been made. As more are made they will also be listed in here. For sake of reference here are the previous rules.

About the Numbers

1. NexGenWar's numbers are updated on a regular basis. If you don't like the numbers at NGW or dissagree, please read this FIRST. If you have further questions about the numbers on the site or would like to provide accurate sources to help our estimates, contact Juno or Phoenix who will be more than happy to hear your comments.

2. DO NOT use VG Charts as a source for console sales. Using VG Charts as a reference additionally counts as advertising (see rule 13) and thus may result in an infraction or ban as appropriate.

General Forum Rules:

3. Any kind of ethnic, cutural, sexual and religious discrimination, prejudice or any kind of bigotry will not be tolerated. That includes, and is not limited to threads, posts and pictures that are stereotyping. Actions will be taken with accordance to the level of the violation which includes infractions and banning.

4. While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or inflammatory posts. Do not under ANY circumstances insult or intentially offend anyone at the forum. Do not make fun or negatively comment any sensitive subjects or persons. Our decision is final in these matters.

5. Discussion of sensitive issues such as the war in Iraq, religion, politics or topics of a similar nature should be treated with respect. Any intentionally trolling comments will result in appropriate disciplinary action.

6. Meaningless inflammatory threads and replies in console specific forums are NOT tolerated. Do not post in a specific console forum just to provoke other members. Infractions and bans will be applied to violators of this rule as appropriate.

7. Please refrain from posting meaningless threads and replies. This includes one word, short, non-sense posts, double posting and posting solely to increase your post count. Posting isn't a popularity contest but rather an intelligent form of communication that should be respected.

8. Wait a reasonable amount of time before bumping posts. Do not bump a thread until it has left the first page of current threads. Only bump threads for meaningful addition to the old topic. Bumping old topics for the sole purpose of bumping may result in an infraction.

9. If you are going to post in a language other than English on these forums, please also post an English translation or summary.

10. Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed and will result in getting both accounts banned.

11. Multiple people sharing one account is also not allowed.

12. Cheating in the arcade games results in an infraction or ban.

13. Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and private message systems to spam other members. A member's custom title, avatar and signature are equally subject to this rule (see below for further custom title, avatar and signature rules). Breaking this rule may result in an immediate and permanent ban.

14. Discussing of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. Brief mentions or related topics which are not illegal may be tolerated; however, it is safest to avoid the subject entirely.

15. Don't pretend to be a NGW representative.
your account will be nuked quickly if you pretend to be a NGW representative as a way of getting interviews. You can't post anything in the interview section anyway, so don't try. There will be abundant threads to request questions and suggest who to interview, please keep your involvement with the interviews limited to suggestions in those threads.

Custom Title Rules:
16. Members are allowed to have a custom title but several are forbidden:
-"Banned"
-"Moderator"
-"Administrator"
-Contains innappropriate language.

Avatar Rules:
17. Avatar size is limited to 80 x 80 pixels and 19.5Kb in size. Animated avatars are allowed.

Signature Rules:
18. All signatures should not exceed the following size limits, but you can have both text and images, assuming the text and the image combined is less than 200 pixels high or the text is placed to either side of the image rather than above or below it.

19. Text in signatures are limited to 7 lines with the default font size. Larger font sizes maybe used if they do not exceed the space of 7 lines using the default font size.

20. Images in a signature can be up to 600 pixels wide, up to 200 pixels high and a size of 200k total. Multiple images are allowed if all the images combined fit into these defined limits.

21. Animated images, or images with movement of any kind in signatures is not allowed.

First changes. Rule #2 is gone. It seems to be pretty much a consensus that we are not in competition with VGChartz, so posting of their numbers is OK. It doesn't mean we believe their numbers as fact, just that you can reference them if you choose.

We've changed the advertising policy as well.

A thread has been created in the forum

This is where all discussion about other sites is to take place. If a thread is made about another site, it will be moved to this thread, and the site will be added to the list. Continued spamming of a site that is already on the list will result in the posts being deleted and the site may be removed from the list.
For any members that currently have multiple ads in their profiles you have until Monday to bring that number down to one. After that we will go through and do it ourselves.

To add to that, Rule number 1 isn't really relevant anymore either as the numbers are soon to be either dropeed or radically changed. Plus I doubt Phoenix or Juno would want to tell you about the numbers so don't bother asking them.

I've revised the actual rules, which can still be found in the same place they always were.
NexGen Wars - Announcements in Forum : Off Topic Discussion
I dropped the getting in touch with Phoenix or Juno part, and as long as the numbers are still shown in the current form the rest of rule number 1 should remain. Although that really just leaves that the numbers are updated on a regular basis. OK. Rule #1 might as well be removed as well.

For #16, In the admin cp you can add usertitles that aren't allowed.

For #17, it's not really a rule as it automatically sets any avatar to 80 80

We've further adjusted the rules. We dropped the first 6 rules under "General Forum Rules" and replaced it with this:

As long as people treat each other with respect, realize that fact and opinion are two different things, and use their better judgement when it comes to posting controversial things everything should be OK. If admins and moderators feel that a thread is going in a bad direction we can either close it, or make a warning in the thread to not continue down the current path. Such warnings are to be heeded!
It makes the rules look somewhat less restrictive, while pretty much achieving the same thing they used to. We're having faith in the maturity of our members here that you can all be effective posters without having to have everything specifically written out for you.

We don't expect everyone to agree on everything, but as long as you respect that other people may have a different opinion than you, and you take a moment to stop and think about what you're saying then hopefully we shouldn't have any problems.

Once again, you can leave any feedback and there may still be further changes to come.
