Naw, I played the US versions, not the Japanese. Which meant that while the first one was censored, (no blood at all, sweat?!) the second and on were full on gore. Only the Japanese versions had green blood for everyone.

Anyone saying Genesis had a better version of MK is out of their mind. Sure, MK 1 on Genesis did have blood and wasn't butched like the SNES, but Nintendo learned their lesson when it was outsold 8 to 1. MK2, MK3 and UMK3 were released properly on the SNES.

Genesis couldn't handle MK (or SF or many other fighters) because it had 3 buttons. Remember having to press A and forward to do a high punch, which could ruin some projectiles? Or having to press the start button to block? It was brutal to play on. While they did release a 6 button controller, Nintendo smartened up and stopped butchering games. At this point, SNES versions were clearly better.

I never could stand the 6-button Genesis controller. 6 is way too many face buttons to use comfortably.

My friend, at whose place I played Genesis (called Mega Drive here), had a 6-Button-Controller. It felt comfortable and MK was never a problem. I don't know how good the SNES versions of MK 2 3 and U3 were, but as far as I remember, the Genesis was considered MKs "home console" by many people, no one ever bothered to check this game out on the SNES. Much like it was with many games on the PS2

The SNES one had better visuals and controls, but let's be honest, that's not the real reason the game was popular. The Genesis version retained the arcade version's gore and that's what sold big time. Though the Genesis's limitations in comparison to the SNES were really, really evident on all of the later ports.

I had both, and i preferred the Genesis until i got Super Metroid for the SNES. That ended any confilct, the SNES was easily the best after that game...

A sega fan could just as easily say Shining Force or Phantasy Star 4, and they wouldn't really be incorrect, because they are also godly RPGs.

One thing I liked about old sonic games was that you didnt NEED to complete everything or whatever, it was like the 1st platformer with branching paths/etc. Well Mario 3 had it to some extent but the branching mainly consisted of using your flying or using Warp Pipes, there was a lot more to it in Sonic, in fact you could play the game all the way through and miss a lot of certain parts of certain stages, and some stuff you see you can't go back from, so you'd have to play the game more than once to see all of some stages.

Don't tell that to a Street Fighter fan, who's probably crying that None of the new consoles have a 6 button Joypad

FTR, I prefer SNES more, but mainly because it had more RPGs, plus games like Super Metroid. However, the Genesis was never outclassed in some genres IMO as it had the best Platformer (Sonic 3), best Scrolling Shooter (Gunstar Heroes), and it did have the upgradeability, which is a mixed bag, but had some nifty games on Sega CD and 32x that SNES couldn't do due to its non-upgradeability.

Anyway, I no longer have a Genesis, I had one for 13 years, the longest I've ever owned a game console. I still have my SNES, however, it was a very recent acquisition (like 6 months ago) though I did have one from 1991 to 1997. I let my bro borrow it when I got the n64, then I never got it back, my Mom supposedly gave it to somebody after he supposedly returned it. The main reason I got rid of the Genesis was because of Wii VC. Im confident that Sega will release most of/all of the games Im most interested in for it, and so I won't really need a Genesis anymore. Im not as confident about getting rid of the SNES yet, since I preferred more 3rd party games on that system than on Genesis (with the exception of EA's lineup on Genesis, which was actually really good at the time) and some of the games probably will never get released or they'll take forever in releasing them.

I had both of them. Got the SNES near launch and the Genesis a few years later. Mostly had EA games on the Genesis, as they seemed better. However I had many more games for the SNES and in looking back I'm pretty sure that I consider it to be the greatest game console of all time. Just so many great games came out for that thing.
