Default Hardware problem...[SOLVED]

Hello, this is most probably a hardware problem but since it's a windows computer I decided to post it here.

Thing is, Stinky (as a friend named it) won't start. The ligh on the motherboard indicates that it got power so the power supply should be working. When I hit the button the CPU fan almost starts to spin but stops almost instantly, the HDD never starts to spin and the screen gets no signal.

My guess is that it's either the CPU or the motherboard, what do you think?

It's probably the power supply.

The obvious question for this is did you change anything recently? Like add/remove hardware in the system? Put in more RAM? Change the processor etc.? I'd check into those first.

And yes, power supplies are always suspect in these situations.

If the power supply went, there's a chance it could have damaged other components as well.

Its the power supply. My friends computer was doing the same thing and it ended up being the power supply.

If it was the power supply though, wouldn't the Motherboard have no power at all?

It's not necessarily that the power supply is completely dead, but more that it not longer provides enough power to the components for them to run. If this is the case, then as long as the power cord is attached to the PSU, and the PSU is attached to the motherboard, then it's going to read that it's receiving power.

It's just not enough.
