Default Speakers stopped working with programs

Ok, so earlier today, my speakers stopped working with programs.
I was listening to some music, and then I quit out of the program, and opened counter strike source to play a little, and there was no sound.
First I checked all my settings in game, they were all set right.
Next I went to see if I could still play music....alas, I could not.
After that, I checked all my drivers ad what not to make sure they were up to date, and they were.
So, I restarted my computer to try and fix it, nothing.
I unplugged and re plugged in the speakers....nothing.
Then i go into the sound settings on my computer, and run a test....and they work perfectly.
I got all excited then, thinking they had been fixed....but no....it STILL doesn't work with any other programs except my sound settings one.
any ideas?

Do you get sound through dxdiag? And which music program where you using (possible culprit)?

Edit: OK, good! troubleshooting canceled. No idea what caused it except some malfunction when closing the music player, maybe?

I've read and laughed at enough instruction manual troubleshooting sections to know that either the volume isn't high enough or you have headphones plugged in.

You know it's funny, you think you know everything/tried everything and you look and something is unplugged.

Culprit: Windows.

If it can go wrong, it will go wrong. Even if you don't do anything, that's no guarantee Windows won't go tits up.

Lol.
To bad...neither was true.
I'm not that dumb to try and fix it for 30 minutes+ only to have a stupid thing like that...usually.
