| I take it a purchase of Amd would also include ATi in the deal?

| Hopefully they'll drive ATi in the right direction then i.e. Better Linux support, better hardware.

| It is kinda funny because when AMD purchased ATI, the market value was the sum of both companies. Over the past year, AMD's stock has been being hammered and now the company's value is about were it was before ATI was purchased. So IBM buying AMD would effectively be like getting ATI for free. I will say that AMD has been improving Linux and support for operating systems outside of Windows. All AMD drivers now share the same OpenGL core regardless of platform. Better hardware is a given. The Radeon HD 2900 was too far along in development for AMD to have any impact on its design. The Radeon 3800 line may have had a little AMD influence. It is the chips beyond this that AMD could have some serious influence. |

| ATi's support of Linux is still shoddy. They need to release more technical documentation, because FGLRX just doesn't cut the mustard.

I believe IBM and SUN are the only exceptions.
