| Well it looks like the Geforce 9800GTX is gonna suck for an upgrade. If you already have a Geforce 8800GTS 512 MB, you already have a Geforce 9800GTX as they're literally the same damn chip. There are two differences: the Geforce 9800GTX has a slightly higher core/shader/memory clock and the Geforce 9800GTX supports triple/quad SLI. Unless you plan on building a triple or quad SLI system, there is literally no reason to spend the extra money on the Geforce 9800GTX over the Geforce 8800GTS 512 MB. Additionally, there are a few cases running at high resolutions (say 2560 x 1600) that the Geforce 8800GTX reigns supreme. Chinese reviewand its Engrish translation. The Geforce 9800GX2 reports have started trickling in and it is even available to purchase in some shops that got early shipments. This card is basically two Geforce 8800GTS 512 MB using one PCI-E slot on the motherboard. This is a good solution if you only have one PCI-E slot or want to try quad SLI. If your motherboard supports SLI, it is wiser and cheaper to get two Geforce 8800GTS 512 MB cards. |

| I'm pretty pleased with my own 8800GTS, and this seems like a stop-gap before Nvidia releases something really new.

| Hm... Damn. Well, my grandmother promised me this one if she ever gets rid of it or gets a new one (which I doubt happens), I'll probably do a clean install of Win98 and use it for old games. Monster Truck Madness, here I come!

The Geforce 9800GTX was rumored to be a massive chip with a 512 bit wide memory interface and upwards of 256 shader processors (most expected 192). Such a chip would have broke the billion transistor mark easily. The performance of such a beast would have easily been 50% great than the Geforce 8800Ultra. The Geforce 9800GTX only beats the Geforce 8800Ultra by 10% if that. There are plenty of examples where the older high end card out runs the Geforce 9800GTX from the various leaks. The only nice thing is that nVidia isn't going to be charging their old high end price of ~$500. That price bracket is reserved for the Geforce 9800GX2. |

| If the 9800 isn't a major departure from the 8800 why didn't they just call it 8900.
