Half-Life for PS2 is probably the best example of PC to console port out there.

Improved graphics and keyboard/mouse support, but still works well with the controller and a few new modes to boot.

HL was a pretty good port. Hitting all those carcasses were fun.

ATM, PCs can do a lot of things consoles can't. But yeah it costs a lot.

but not everything pretty is any good, UT3 is subpar to 2004 and crysis is well... the singleplayer was fun but to short and the multiplayer is like a fail version of battlefield

PC games especially FPS seem to be falling into the graphics over gameplay problems thats cropped up on consoles recently as well, but serousely i never thought id think UT3 would suck.... its just so... well you need to play it first... suffice to say the link gun cant link very well destroying the guns entire point and it gets worse from there

I stick with PC for gaming. Mainly cause i just download them for free . I know u can burn games for consoles but then u need to mod them, and its just easier for the pc. Plus i cant stand playing games with a joystick to aim. *shudders*

My Opinion

The Control pad vs KB/Mouse combo argument I believe is easily settled by a little thought and a good example. If I want to turn rapidly around with a mouse this is a very fast action, with a controller it is quite slow in comparison especially if you are talking about a large turn 90deg or more.

A match was set up between OXM and PC Gamer, a team based death match I believe. The game was Halo, xbox's flagship a game the PC Gamer editors had basically never played and one the OXM staff lived and breathed day in day out. Long story short after the dust had settled the guys with controllers in their hands where beaten by n00bs with KB and Mice. I believe that is a pretty telling example of the superiority of the control system.

Whether this is enough to make you buy a PC coupled with good graphics is obviously a matter of personal opinion and disposable income. I happily paid 3 times the cost of a 360 for a far superior and versatile machine. I can do so many things on my PC other than game(consoles can do other stuff other than run games but not as many) . It is not going to Red Ring o' Death on me. It is quieter by far than a 360. PS3's have yet to come into their own so that is a no brainer. Wii's simply do not allow you any real chance to play "hardcore" games.

There are a few titles on each of these console that I would love to have but the money it costs to buy any of these is not worth the few games I would actually buy in my current circumstance.

Now when Rock band comes to the 360 in Australia it is going to be a very very hard decision but I believe for me that just might be the killer app that makes it all worth while and I will once again be a console user. The excellent online system for 360 gaming is also something I will look forward too. So sad Live has not been developed well at all on the PC, though the Steam community is quite excellent.

I had the pleasure of playing through most of COD4 on a friends PS3. The experience was great, graphics where nice but obviously not as nice as on a good PC, on the control side, not being great with dual analog it was a little frustrating but setting it to the easiest difficulty made it bearable. Not being able to lay waste with accurate head shots and rapid aiming and turning took a little enjoyment away but time spent with the controls would eventually reduce that a little. The sticky/auto aim felt a little like I was cheating somehow but I needed all the help I could get. The couch was nice but so is my computer chair.

I can't wait till it drops in price so I can get it on my PC. I know it will be even more fun even on the second time through and when I play the multi-player aspect I won't be gimped by my lack of controller skills.

I realize you believe that achievement points obviously outweigh better graphics and controllability on games of a lower caliber, I believe the money still in my pocket and the game never played outweighs both, I will just download a great mod for an already good game and enjoy that free of charge.

Console's real advantages in my opinion is the ease of use and availability of more titles. As has been said before they win in the racing platformer and rhythm genres. I loved building my PC, that in itself was a good experience. Games take a bit longer to get setup on a PC but even Console games are being patched nowadays.

PC games are definitely worth it. They look better, control better, cost less to buy. If they are a great game they have an awesome chance to be adopted by the modding community adding so much more value and enjoyment to the original game. I personally would never buy a mediocre game for a PC(let alone try to find mods for them) or on a console just to get achievement points, they mean nothing even though they add another layer of fun to good games, they won't make a mediocre game worth buying(you can't polish a turd). Even if you want the arguable pleasure of bragging rights associated with achievement points only available on one console at the moment, just rent it which is just like uninstalling it on a PC. Consoles do enjoy better sales and more games, both of which really don't make it a preferable option. To even make this question pose-able you had to omit the entire MMO Genre arguably one of the most enjoyed gaming types in the world. We may not have couches or achievement points but we have Azeroth

I apologize that this is a ramble and out of any real sense of order but its late and I am one lazy ass poster.

Other matches have been set up with other games that have the Console players beating the PC players. Shadowrun, and a new RTS. Check the newest OXM for the story on the RTS. There are compariisons of PC and PS3 UT3 and complaining that the PS3 version is so much slower and in their video show the PC version with an obviously cranked sensitivity, but you can do the same on consoles. You just need to get used to the movements.
