crysis 98% :o

After finding out crysis got 98% in pc gamer I just went WTF. Crysis must easily be the most overrated game ever. I have played it, on a friend's pc (I can't fork out the required cash) and it's just a generic shooter. Apart from the stunning graphics there's just nothing that can compare this game to half-life 2 (also 98%)

I can understand that pc gamer needs new games to rate extremely high, but jumping the bandwagon is not the way to do it. I know pc-game quality is severely lacking as of late, and while crysis is nice, it just doesn't deserve a 98%

Except that HL2 isn't worth 98% review score since that probably is THE most overrated game ever

No way, Half-Life 2 was actually good. Crysis was pretty linear and boring. Half-Life 2 was very linear, but it had a decent story to present.

rofl most overrated game ever? people need to start remembering that half life 2 was released in 2004 and at that time was far in advance of any other game near it.... unlike say halo 3 which scored 100% reviews... now of course thats not overrating something at allllll.. so no HL2 isent the worlds most overrated game

but yea crysis really sucked ass... i was so hyped specialy about the multiplayer, then they took out half the features saying it couldent be done on DX9 (apparently a night day cycle ingame is impossible on DX9) and slapped it in DX10 saying "go buy vista yo its not shit.... honest" but even with all the aprent cool features in the multiplayer was crap... basically some crap version of COD with tanks... very poor tanks that anyone could run up to and punch off the nearest cliff

I don't know what ill think about Crysis, but from what ive seen of it, it looks pretty awesome.

It looks pretty awesome, but then again, the ps3 looks awesome too. However graphics don't make the game.

but still quite far behind the likes of Ocarina of time, final fantasy 7, Starcraft and HL1/counter-strike 1.6. But still way above crysis.

Maybe reviewers are just giving higher and higher scores. I hate to refer to SDF, but they just prove the point. By give mediocre games very high scores (ie 10/10 for lair) they couldn't give really good games the credit they deserve anymore. Hence 10,5/10 for ratchet and clank. Hence 11/10 for SMG in that particular italian magazine.

The problem is simple: overhyped games need high scores because otherwise the reviewers fail, not the game itself, that one is carried by the hype and reviewers feel they have to follow and keep up. Whilst alot of hype games are good, they are most of the time not great. This causes score-inflation.
Couple that with the general decline of quality in games. Score inflation makes this generation of games look like it's equal to ages past, but everyone knows that the quality is steadily declining.
