I can't think of a single thing that Microsoft has taken over and managed to make better so I have little hope that I'll start using Yahoo anytime soon. Google will still rule vastly supreme over anything those two can ever do.

True, I stopped using Yahoo! a long time ago, and since I don't use any of MS online services, I wont be using whatever they come up with, not that it will be any good, everything MS makes isn't worth a $0.01.

Google is the whole package: Mail, Document Storage, RSS Reader, Search, Custom Homepage, Calendar, Web hosting.

Microsoft have like two of those (Mail and Custom Homepage). The only good thing that Microsoft do online is MSN Messenger.

There are dozens of better alternatives (Google Talk and Apple iChat) too bad a lot of people (my friends) are hooked into this crap of a service. Thankfully Pidgin Internet Messenger can manage communicating with MSN as well as a lot more, unfortunately you'll still need an MSN/Hotmail ID.

yeah but you need some kind of ID but you don't need an account, I use my Gmail with msn/gaim (haven't tried pidgin yet).

GTalk sucks. It's just Jabber with Google support. Apple iChat is pretty much AIM with a fancy interface. Pidgin sucks nuts. So does Trillian and AMSN.

I think its a dumb move on Microsoft's part, personally, since their motive is to beat Google. While they are off buying Yahoo who offers virtually the same services they do, Google is off bidding on 700 MHZ cell phone spectrum that all of the future phones and wireless internet networks will be using, and Google will likely be paying a fraction of the price Microsoft will when it wins. Even if MS didnt have any plans to go into cellphones, they could license out the spectrum and make a killing off it. Google is going in a completely different direction, so they can't truly be beat.
