Default Aliens: Colonial Marines

Perhaps I'm only hyped for this game because I'm a huge Aliens fan and I've been waiting for another good Aliens game that has nothing to do with AvP, but if you have any interest in a cool game about marines getting their asses kicked by fast moving creatures then you should probably be hyped for this game too.

Here's some screenshots: Tiscali Games - Plná velikost obrázku ze hry Aliens: Colonial Marines (click "Další obrázek" for the next image)

I realize the images are kind of low quality, that's because they are scans of GameInformer. I saw the issue myself and they do really look good.

And here's what's known about the game so far:

Colonial Marines will place players in the shoes of a United States Colonial Marine squad member tasked with facing a terrifying horde of Aliens. The game's story, written by Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, "will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films while leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Aliens experience."

The upcoming shooter will include weapons seen in the Aliens universe, including pulse rifles and flamethrowers, all packaged within a squad-based system. The press release also highlighted the game's brooding soundtrack and detailed level design as elements that will keep players on the edge of their seats.

Besides the main story mode, Colonial Marines will offer a four-player co-op mode with each person playing a distinct role in the squad experience. Lastly, SEGA commented that additional details on the multiplayer aspects will be unveiled later this year. Check back with us for more updates on this new Aliens title.

I think it looks awesome to tell you the truth.
I just hope it has some good gameplay and the feel of the second movie.

Oh, and the game is being developed by Gearbox, not Sega. So that's a plus.

You're not alone in being sucked up by the hype. Hopefully this'll be a great game which does the licence justice.

I think Sega may actually have a hit with this one, let's hope so, since we can also FINALLY get a good Aliens game again. The only good ones we've ever had were Alien 3 on SNES and SEGA, and AVP on PC (Which was different from AVP on Jaguar, which was different from the sucky AVP on SNES/Genesis, which actually was also on Jaguar) and Alien Trilogy and AVP on Jaguar weren't bad either, considering they were pre-goldeneye FPS games.

I trust Gearbox. This game should be really good.

I hope if it's successful it leads to a new AvP game. They kicked ass for sure.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the AvP games as well. Especially the first. I had just always wished that there was a straight up Aliens game that followed Colonial Marines. No Predators, no Pred-Aliens, just the Marines having having an uphill battle against the Aliens.

Made of win, I hope they make the marines incredibly vulnerable like in the PC AvP, with dark corridors and a motion tracker that scares the crap out of you!

I think the lighting in that game could be a bit better but there is still plenty of time to improve this. The Aliens movie was all about atmosphere and it needs good lighting. Additionally, they're using the Alien design from Alien 3 with the smooth head, not the ridged heads used in Alien and Aliens.

I think you're looking at it wrong, man.

Also, the first Alien also used the smooth heads. They decided to change it in the second movie for a scarier feel and also for the fear the the smooth heads would crack and have to be replaced during production (Hooray for behind the scenes featurettes!)
