yes indeed, MS is getting lots of use from its products simply because people dont know any better. tho it does seem that the better educated people are, the more they know to stay away from MS products....

and 6600, no i havent used any open source software, i dont know nearly enough about computers to be able to do that. i do recognize its superiority to closed source tho. i wish i could use it, but being at school i have to have XP cause i have many different engineering programs that only work on it.

There's nothing to stop you using open source tools that are written for Windows. You are already using one (Firefox).

What's wrong with Word?

And I think sharky meant to say that he hasn't used any open source operating systems, cheda, since that was what e6600 asked.

Nothing. But people think that it is the only word processor.

It's not the only but, happens to be the cleanest looking and best I've used. Everything else feels like a "imitation" word... If that makes sense. I actually really like the Microsoft Office programs.

Word Perfect is a much better word processor

iWork Pages is much cleaner.

GNOME Office, KOffice and OpenOffice.org offer nearly as much features for no charge.

I switch back and forth between openOffice and word^^. The new word has some fun toys, it's just horribly unorganized.

Open Office works, and it's free...So it's useful on that basis. However I get annoyed when people say that's all you need in a word processor. People are worried about bloat, I'm just nervous about bloat coming to fast...I love the rich set of features in a program like maya for example, and it's additions are efficient and applicable enough that I'd never label it as a bloated piece of software.

Office is great. And since every other organisation on the planet uses Word, there's no compatability issues.

Maya is nice, I use Blender though it does all I need and a bit more.
