Because Microsofts own software can make use of core functions in their OS that competitors can't. Thus they have an unfair advantage when it comes to functionality since their software can access functions directly in the OS while competitors have to code those functions on top of the OS which leads to performance loss and in many cases reduced functionality since the OS itself does not allow these functions to be run on top by external applications.

In other words MS applications will always be better than a 3rd party application.

That is why EU fined MS and my guess is that MS have started to release the APIs because EU won in court against MS.

I guess they should fine Apple then seeing as though they gave the Webkit developers access to undocumented APIs that give them a significant advantage over the Mozilla devs. Not only are the APIs undocumented, they cannot be used by other applications because of some kind of signing system.

If apple get a market share that is a tad bigger than it is now my guess is that they will find themselves in EU court too.

Good. I'd also like to see them fined for the massively inflated prices in Europe. Even if you factor in tax, they are still considerably more than their American equivalents.

Oh, and for false advertising on their adverts.

Why the Opera bashing? It is far and away the best out of the big 3 (Opera, Firefox, IE)
Firefox 3 is horrid, absolutely horrid, and IE has always been bad.

Last time I checked, opera was the only browser that is stable enough to have 150+ tabs open without crashing (at last count I had over 130 open...I hate closing tabs)
