Could a dead battery cause my computer to not start up at all?

I have a computer that won't start up with a dead battery. However, I highly doubt that this is the case.

It could be a virus but that is rather unlikely.

You haven't said what tests you've done or their results for your to isolate the problem to that of the motherboard. If you want serious help, get serious about the diagonsis.

Turn it off, then wait 5 mins, then turn it on again.

i dont exactly know because i took it down to my local computer shop... but they said they tried taking the ram out and the video card and stuff, i think they also tried the hard drive.

oh and i cleared the CMOS and nothing helped... however i did find out that i can get it to turn on for like a milosecond but then it shuts down again.. that only way to do that is to turn the power on on the PSU and then it only works for the power button on the Mobo, then it doesn't work again and i have to turn the PSU off wait a while and it will work again.
