| They do target standards. That's why FF3 passes Acid2. Acid3 is for pure developer snobbery.

![]() Opera, Safari, Konqueror and others passed Acid2 years before IE8 and FF3. That aside, WebKit is a free open source engine, Epiphany (GNOME default browser) is actually switching to WebKit last I've heard, why doesn't Mozilla switch to WebKit instead of Gecko. WebKit proved itself to be more standard complaince, faster and just more l33t. Google, Nokia and others are using WebKit, so there is a huge corporate power behind it.
