Default So I bought myself an 24" iMac yesterday

And I'm happy i did works like a charm a bit different from Win/Linux but still simple enough and it "just works".

Like the new update with a bit more RAM as standard and boosted CPU speed (I did not get the Nvidia 8800 GS version)

I will never go back to PC at home now specially since even Ubuntu turned it's back on me and the update to Hardy Heron majorly screwed up about everything there was to screw up with my PC.

Now I'm just waiting for Spore.

Oh and here is the new desktop

Oh and here's the old noisy space and electricity hogging computer

And here's the new energy efficient one next to the old screen and keyboard, will be so nice once I get rid of the old equipment

Congrats and welcome to the club
I'm looking into either an iMac or a MacBook Pro next Autumn (you can tell I'm a happy Mac owner)

If you ever needed a Windows app, don't consider Boot Camp, Parallels or VMWare Fusion, before trying Darwine a port of Wine to Darwin (Mac OS X kernel).
Or if you want something that 'just works' I highly recommend CrossOver Mac. Codeweavers is a major contributor to the Wine project, and their commercial version of Wine, offers ease of use and stability over Free Wine.

Oh, and since Mac OS X is UNIX, and comes with X11, a lot of GNU/Linux apps can be run on it with minor or no tweaks, though most of them have Aqua ports, and if you want GCC install XCode which should be in Disk 1 that came with your iMac.

I think I went a bit off topic Keep us updated on your Mac experience.

So far I have only had a positive experience only little gripe I have is that the main screen does not turn off when using Front Row on the TV (It only turns black but the BG light is still on). Hopefully there will be a fix to this sometime in the future.

As I said everything i wanted so far "just works"

EDIT:// Oh and I'm currently downloading Open Office, Gimp and Audacity for all of my editing needs

Ok so now I've had this iMacfor almost a week and I don't regret getting it in any way. It was worth the investment.

Download OpenOffice.org 3 Beta, previous versions of OO.o aren't Aqua native, instead they run on X11, plus OO.o 3 Beta supports reading Microsoft's OXML documents.

I actually replaced OO with NeoOffice much smoother integration into OS X.

Ohh... and I just happen to buy a game, C&C 3 actually pretty fun. Will keep me occupied some time until Spore comes

OO.o 2.4 requires X11 to run and as a result doesn't integrate properly with OS X.
But OO.o 3 beta which uses Aqua integrates with OS X just fine.
