| I've been running AVG for years, and haven't been bothered with viruses. First layer of protection is a good firewall, ZoneAlarm and ActiveArmor have both served me well. Against Spyware and similar crap, Ad-Aware and SpyBot are mandatory. For online protection: Firefox with NoScript. Just in case I also keep a copy of Hijackthis, for some lowlevel checking. |

Tried it when cleaning up a relative's computer and it found (and deleted) a veritable virus haven. I was not aware there was an AVG freeware version, so I might give that a shot since it's so highly regarded.
