Here I was getting excited because the was an actual PS3 post in the PS3 section, but then it turned out to not really be PS3 related.

There are actual PS3 posts in other forums, here it's just less BS.

Enough off topic post though, I got a real problem here. I've been wanting to update my firmware but my PS3 won't connect to the internet (same problem I got a couple of weeks ago). I want to play Uncharted's demo before I burn money to buy the full game.

You can download the firmware update from the internet, put it on a USB and put it in the PS3. It has the option to choose external device when you go to update. You can download it from any official Playstation website, choose the appropriate region.
