Sony has revealed that over 9.8 million users have registered PlayStation Network accounts.
Between them, they have accessed over 170 million downloads via the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable service.
The PlayStation Network allows users to access the PlayStation Store for demos, trailers, full games and other content, as well as communicate with other users.
Today, Sony revealed that it will be offering a movie download service for PlayStation 3 users, due to go live in the US this summer.

Some decent numbers, especially since Sony currently has stated worldwide PS3 sales at around 12 million. Free seems to encourage people to sign up.

Firmware 2.4 is available now. In-game XMB, trophy support, custom music support, doubled in size friends list, and the date and time shown in the corner of the screen.

Only took me a couple minutes to download and install.

I thought we were going to be able to play music while playing games? Not that its a huge concern really. But whats goin on there?

The ability was added but it's something the developers need to include support for. Existing games will need a patch and future games will only be compatible if they're set up to be. No word yet on what the first game to support it will be.

Nothing more than a rumour at this time but a supposedly leaked Wal-Mart inventory sheet lists the 40GB PS3 as being replaced with a new model in August.

A Wal-Mart spreadsheet allegedly listing products that the company is having difficulty stocking states that the 40GB PS3 "will be replaced with [a] new model in early August." We received this sheet from an employee that's sent us solid information in the past though s/he can't confirm the origin of the note that the model will be replaced. Of course, in the eternal battle over semantics, "replaced" could simply mean some minor tweaks to the model and the addition of the DualShock 3.
