Default PSN Downloadable Games Thread

I think a thread would be good for this. Its mainly for people looking to buy and try a new game of the PSN service but aren't sure which ones to get or want to know some opinions on ones they are thinking about getting etc. So say what games you have, which are good/bad, value, and just discuss in general.

I have:

High Stakes Poker - this games is really fun if you like Texas hold'em poker. Its feels so cool and like you are really there playing on a table against other people. I rate this game.

Riff: Every day shooter - I heard about the music thing in this and thought I'ld try it out. Its a cool concept, but the game itself is really bare, repetitive and gets old fast and there are better ones out there.

Super Stardust HD - the king of overhead shooters. This game is AWESOME a must buy if you are even contemplating it.

Pixeljunk Monsters - damn fun base defense game. One of the best I've played and its co-op. Ild say its another must buy but try the demo first.

Does anyone have any go sports games? They look cool but apparantly suck.

Wow, where to begin?

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection + Online
This is the Tekken you know and love, with online versus play and optional voice chat. Pretty good implementation for the lobby, plus leaderboards.

Super Stardust HD
Definitely the best space shooter on PSN. Pure, liquid adrenaline, with a lot of depth.

PixelJunk Monsters
A very, very good tower defense-style game. Pretty addictive, and with a lot of hidden complexity under the surface, like a good tower defense game should have,

flOw + expansion
This game isn't so much played as experienced. Trippy music, beautiful graphics. A good game to zone out to when you can't be hassled to play something complex and demanding.

Everyday Shooter
Not a bad shooter. Lack of powerups give this game somewhat less replay value, though the strategies involved on each level are interesting to try and figure out/unlock.

Go! Sudoku
Your typical Sudoku game, but with timers, and varying difficulties.

Lemmings
If you like the Lemmings series, this is a must-buy. Control and direct swarms of cute and mindless little critters as you try to get them to the exit without losing too many or running out of time.

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
This is a neat top-down shooter in the vein of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, with extremely corny voice-acting and ho-hum humor. The gameplay is pretty neat, and it's got oodles of powerups and a large selection of special weapons to help you take out the bag guys.

Go! Puzzle
There's actually three games in this pack, but all three are fairly dull and lifeless. Even as a puzzling fanatic I'm not enthused about any of them.

Super Puzzle Fighter HD Remix
A neat head-to-head Tetris variant featuring some of your favorite Capcom characters. Unfortunately the characters themselves aren't rendered in HD, though the gameplay itself is unaffected and remains quite good. Online play is supported.

Warhawk
I don't personally care for this 3rd person action shooter, but a lot of people like it. You can opt to buy this on a Blu-ray disc or download it from the PSN; both versions play similarly. Online or splitscreen play only; there's no single player mode. Features online leaderboards and a level up system.

Trials of Topoq (PS3 Eye required)
The best of the downloadable offerings for the PlayStation Eye, this puzzle game will have you making a fool of yourself in front of a camera trying to "push" a ball toward a goal. Nice graphics, and smooth gameplay; if you own only one downloadable game for a PS Eye, make it this one.

Nucleus
A biological spin on the typical shooter. Unfortunately, it's not particularly fun or interesting. Stay away from this game.

Blast Factor + Advanced Research
A decent shooter game. Definitely superior to Nucleus, but not nearly as fun or complex as Super Stardust HD. The expansion adds a bunch of new levels and slightly better gameplay.

Various "classic" games
Q*Bert, Joust, Mortal Kombat II, Gauntlet II, Rampart, etc. Get these games for the nostalgia value if you must. Most are unremarkable and haven't aged well; MK2 is playable online, but is a lot more flawed than I remember it being.

I've got at least a dozen other downloadable titles, if you want to know about specific ones, post here and ask.

Go! Sports Ski - I don't have this but my mate does, played it once and its a pretty rubbish game to be honest. Controls are very bad. You're getting three modes: battle, time attack, and slalom. You can also play online. REALLY, Stay Away from this.

Go! Sports SkyDiving - it depends, if you are a sky diver like me then u might like it for a little bit. You're not really missing out on anything. Controls are much better then Ski.

You have to aquire the licences(doesnt take long at all) to unlock different things(can't remember what they were). Two different modes; formation skydiving and landing. Prefer landing though. has a better control and overall feel to it.
controls in formation are not up to scratch, a bit too sensative. It's just too fiddly.

Check out some of the video's, im sure there are some on IGN or youtube or something. Apart from that, you'll probably never play it again once u get all the licences(like me).

Icemage pretty much covered everything on PSN, I'm just gonna review one that he didn't

HIGH VELOCITY BOWLING - Good for a quick game with your friends, easy to pick up, bowling physics is better than Wii Bowling, not deep enough to keep you playing for more than an hour

overall: 8 for the game, 7 for the price (10 bucks !!??)

My list:

Super Rub-a-Dub:Got it when it was on sale for $3 or $4 and it is worth that much. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it will kill about an hour or two of your time and the tilt controls work fairly well for it.

Go! Puzzle:As Icemage said, it's 3 games in one and was only about $7 so it's a decent value. I do very much enjoy Skyscraper and last I checked am 9th on the leaderboards for that game.

Calling All Cars:Another game I got when it was on sale and it really isn't worth the hype it was given. Single player mode gets boring pretty fast and multiplayer can really only be done locally since there is never anyone online. If there were more people on, then this game would be better since it really lives on it's multiplayer.

Loco Roco Cocoreccho:Not the same experience as the PSP game, but it's OK if you like hearing Loco Roco's singing, which I know that everyone does.

Super Stardust HD:Got this game via game sharing with xxmynameisjohnxx. It's worth it for free, and it would be worth it to buy. I'm not a big space shooter fan, but I do enjoy this game. I'm not Icemage good, but I'm 2nd from this board in each level.

Pain:Another game I got from xxmynameisjohnxx. This is one I'm glad I didn't pay money for. It's an alright game, just not worth the $10 they charge for the one level that you get. Plus when they charge $1 to just add a new character to the game, it doesn't bode well for the price of future expansions.

The Trials of Topoq:Makes good use of the PS Eye, which is great because if you got one, and want to use it there aren't many options. If you have the Eye there really isn't any reason to not get this game.

Aquatopia:It's a virtual aquarium that allows you to interact with the fish using the PS Eye. It is what it says it is and nothing more than that. If you like aquarium screensaver's then you'll like this.

Resistance Map Pack 1:Adds two new maps for online play. It seems that not enough people bought them, so they tend to not be used for many online matches, making them pretty much useless. I've played on each map maybe 2 or 3 times. I steered clear of Map Pack 2 because of this, and it makes me wary to ever buy expansions until I wait and see if they are popular.

Warhawk:Omega Dawn Booster Pack:I waited a while to see if this was popular, and there were a lot of games I couldn't get into because I didn't have the pack. Adds a new map and a new vehicle to the game and is worth it since it seems people are willing to support the Warhawk expansions.

I'm playing Pain with my little brother and, I have to say, I'm having a lot of fun.

I've got:

Calling all Cars
Super Stardust HD
Crash Team Racing (PS1)
Medievil (PS1)

Wipeout HD is a definite, I recently bought a PSP and got Wipeout Pure for real cheap and it's great.
