Default NGW PS3 tournament of some sort

I'll give some credit to Junkie13 for mentioning this idea in one of the save the site threads, although it is something I've always wanted to do, just never got around to it.

On many occasions I have tried setting up an online game for us here, but usually time zones differences cause a problem. That's why I'm thinking we should try setting up in a tournament format instead. 1 on 1 matches should make it easier to get games going.

This thread is just intended as a way to gauge the interest in such a tournament, as well as any suggestions to make sure that it will work. We'll also need to decide on what game we'll be playing. I assume Resistance will be the most likely option, since I think most people have that. The only other games I can think of that might be decent options are Warhawk, Motorstorm, or even Super Stardust HD(as long as everyone uses the honour system in reporting scores, or provides pics).

There wouldn't be prizes aside from bragging rights, but it could be a good way to get some community involvement going.

So if you're interested in participating or have any suggestions let me now, along with what games you have, so that if we go ahead and give it a try we can hopefully include as many people as possible.

ah, reminds me of the XBL nights we used to have regularly. Great idea for getting the community involved again. We should try and bring those XBL nights back too, and start up Wii tournaments (since that is now possible).

I've realized that the gaming night idea doesn't seem to work very well. Mostly because night to some is day to others, and there still aren't enough members that have PS3's for it to work unless most of us participate. Plus I think a tournament structure could be good and is something that can be followed even by people who don't have a PS3.

Resistance sounds good, I think everyone has that. This is certainly a good idea, I'll participate.

I'm liking the Resistance option as well because it has spectator mode. Would be kind of cool if you knew a game was going on so you could go in to watch/scout the competition. You could even provide some play-by-play for the site that way.

I'm in I suck at online, so that means just a 1 on 1 from time to time, and the rest of the time as a spectator...

I was thinking of setting it up in two stages. The first part would be for ranking purposes and would likely involve everybody playing three or so matches and then getting points for a win or tie. That would be used to determine match ups in the tourney with first vs. last, 2nd vs. 2nd to last etc. and then it would follow the standard tourney tree from there. That way everybody gets in at least 4 games before they are eliminated.

That's just the early plan, but all the specific details can be worked out later.

The problem with Resistance is getting people's schedules together. It'd be easier to do it with an offline game, or one with official leaderboards to track times/scores.

And no, you don't want to do a Super Stardust HD tournament. Trust me on this.

I say we use lap times in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
