Default Backwards Compatibility Question

Hey, I just got a 60GB PS3. Anyways, I was wondering if it were possible, when playing PS1 or PS2 games, to copy the entire game to the hard drive and play from there. I seem to remember reading that it could be done. Or I could have imagined the whole thing.

I have a game that is pretty scratched up, and it often locks up in the middle of gameplay for a minute or two before letting me continue. So I figure if I could copy it to the hard drive, this might solve the problem.

The only way you can have a game on your hard drive is if you purchase it through the PSN store. Disc versions can't be copied to the drive at all.

No PS2 games and there probably won't be any. I've heard the Japanese store has many PS1 games available, but the pickings are slim elsewhere.

Oh well, I just hope that the locking and the freezing was due to my PS2, and not the disc itself. It didn't seem to start happening until I got to a certain point in the game. So I will grab a mem card adapter soon to try it out.

Actually, do any of you know if Shadow Of The Colossus is known for freezing and locking? I believe I'm on the 6th or 7th colossus (heading north through the desert). I walk or ride along, and it freezes my movement. I can still pan the camera around myself, but my character is stuck. Sometimes my horse will continue to move like normal. And then usually after 2-4 minutes, it will let me go again.

Actually a report was made and that next year, PS2 games ARE coming to the store.

But as of now, if you own the game on a disc, there will be a way, but it may not be legal.
