UPDATE!!!!

UPS guy hops out of the truck with a half squashed box that looks like he backed over it at the HUB this morning or something. I saw that and my heart just sank.... No way it could have made it with the same amount of damage that it was coming to me with, i thought... yeah, i was screwed, i expected it to be in pieces, no fragile stickers on the box, no nothing, and it got BEAT DOWNNN.... after i opened it, The actual PS3 box looked even worse if that's possible, and when i opened that box, they didn't even bother to secure it in the box (either that or it was jarred loose from the UPS truck backing over it, :-) it was just flopping around in there all the way from Texas i guess...

It only came with the A/V cable and manuals, and that's it.. so, after staring at the battered box for a few minutes, and trying to talk myself out an anxiety attack,,, i started to try to think.........after eyeing up the power cord to my PC i figured why not?, what do i have to lose?

I moved the 360 from it's king's throne upon my entertainment center and ever so gently placed it and plugged in the composite cable (just an aside,,, WHY??, what's the point of that??) and the pc cord too. I was afraid to even breathe on the thing...

I flipped on the power supply, got a red light on.... took a deep breath and touched that (really cool) little button thingy, it beeped,, turned green,,,, booted to some waves on screen,,, then said "cannot continue, hard disk not found". And it STAYED ON!!!. Just like i heard that a PS3 without a hard drive will do. HoLy sHiT!!. I think that's all it needs.

It doesn't need a PSU at ALL!! now i feel like a tard for having ordered one, i'll just have to turn around and put it back on ebay i guess....

It's actually in really good shape, nice and clean, all serials and warranty seals in tact, built 9/07.

So far so good, i'm going to head out for a HDD and a controller and a HDMI, so, i'm going to take off the PSU since i don't need it, and can make that back, so i'm back at a hundred bucks for time being...

Sounds promising. If it's just the hard drive that it needs, it'll just take a couple minutes to set up and then you'll be all set to go.

Alright, update again.

i went to best buy and picked up a Western Digital 160gb drive, it was 100 dollars though, which sucks, but, hell 160 gigs is cool. Got heavenly sword too, they had NADA for selection, not even uncharted or COD4... And i wanted a good representation of PS3, so i figured that it would work.

Plopped in the new HDD, booted it up, it said to format so I formatted the disk, updated to 2.20, played some heavenly sword, set up my wireless, browsed some internet and watched a movie.

Yeah, i'm happy. It works flawlessly, whisper quiet which is very refreshing, just awesome. I don't know what the hell the deal was, but this PS3 was NOT broken!!. after seeing the box when it got here, that's pretty amazing..

I figure that maybe the Hard drive went, and the person returned it to best buy (still had a best buy receipt taped to the box), but that must have been it b/c it works great.

now i have to figure out what to do next, i'm not sure if i can have a 360 and a PS3, that'd be a bit much to feed. I don't want to give up the 360 though w/ gears 2 coming and all...

oh well, i'm just going to enjoy them both for now... I think everything came to $270 for a 160gb PS3.

OH, what's up with playstation network?? i went to start my account but it says the server is down for maintainence.... Maybe because of the new store?? I dunno, but was a little bummed about that.

Correct, they took down the entire network so they could do the maintainence. It's been a big day in PlayStation land, they finanlly linked European PSN names to the European forums, the new store is going live and firmware 2.30 is now up for download.

Just to put an end to that... Konami's registration system is for all their games and none of their games, you don't need to have a PS3 or 360 to register on the Konami site, it just allows you access to things quicker than other people who aren't registered.
