i hope i didn't make a mistake,,, new PS3 owner

BUT, BIG caveat for me here.

I bought an "As-Is" system off ebay,, DOH!! I meant to though, it says it was missing the hard drive and that it won't work without it.

I figured i could grab a cheap notebook HDD and throw it in, see if it runs with it. If not, maybe try a new PSU, in it... Worth a shot.

I only paid 100 bucks for it... SO if i can get it up and running, then it'd be like a quarter cost.

The description only states about it missing the hard drive, and, yeah, i could see how it wouldn't work without it... WISH ME LUCK!!!

If the missing hard drive is the only problem, then there really is no problem. That being said, I personally would be scared to buy anything sold "as is" especially when it's $100. It sounds like it's legit from what you've said, but......all you can do is hope for the best.

no, no,, no more deals for me.. i have enough "as is" stuff already :-), mostly b/c of my own doing though.

seriously though, i'm praying that it works with a new HDD. There's a reason why they sell them sans hard drive on ebay for cheap i hear, but i'm not gonna say and i don't think that's the case with THIS ONE...

BUT, i know my way around consoles and modding and such (chipping, firmware flashes, CFW, adding HDD's etc etc.), so i'm hoping that as long as there's not too much soldering to do, i might luck out. I'm persistant, so i won't stop until it works...

I don't usually do stuff like this, but, other than that the pics look like its spotless and i, for some reason lately, am getting the PS3 itch.

I do have the buyers remorse though... I hope it works out... I'll post an update.

If the HDD is the only issue, it's a 5 minute job, if it's not just the HDD, you could mod it into a grill.

Why did the PS3 NOT come with a harddrive?

That should put up a red flag for you.

well,

It does, but this one is different the more i think of it. Usu. they'll not have a HDD b/c that's how sony can track a stolen PS3. So, usu. stolen PS3's are sold sans HDD, so that the system can't be tracked to a new owner. Don't ask me what happens when someone upgrades their HDD, it must put a serial code when it formats it or something, and this is just what i've heard, not sure if it's true b/c if it codes the HDD, they'd track it no matter what...

BUT, on e-mail conversation w/ them, this one doesn't power on, so, they hawked the HDD after the fact that the PSU went. I have a new PSU coming too (50 bucks), so, i'm thinking that this one isn't stolen, just broken.

I hope it doesn't cause me too much grief, so far i'm at $150, still not too bad. I can get a Sata 2.5" for about 50 bucks, so i'll be at half price if all goes well..

Already sounding like it could be more trouble than it's worth. Guess you won't know for sure until you get everything.
