MK64 was awesome for two reasons:

Battle Mode - Block Fort
and
Battle Mode - Block Fort

Double Dash was disappointing for three reasons:

Really Shitty Battle Mode Stages
Crappy Battle Mode Stages
Inexcusably Small Battle Mode Stages

wow, the new stuff is awsome gameplay wise, but shitty looking.

Double dash also had less interesting race maps (banshee boardwalk).

Metroid Prime 3 had some shitty looking screenshots aswell.
