Default Square Enix brings FFXIII Engine to Nintendo Wii

Nintendic » Square Enix brings FFXIII Engine to Nintendo Wii

Quote:
Square Enix has touted its extremely powerful White Engine development tool as being how it was set to produce mind-blowing graphics on the PlayStation 3. This has already been demonstrated by the revelation of the fantastic graphical prowess of both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII: Versus on Sony’s platform. However, along with a name change, the engine has been reworked for Wii.
Coming as a major surprise at this year’s Game Developers’ Conference over in San Francisco, North America, Role-Playing Game heavyweight developer Square Enix has revealed that its White Engine tool has now in fact been renamed as ‘Crystal Tools’. But not only this, the company’s impressive 3D game development engine has now been completely tweaked and tinkered with in order to support the market-leading Wii console from Nintendo.
Hell yeah.

That's great news. We just need some games to use it now.

I like the last line before the trailer "Could something like this be possible on the Wii". Yes, the Wii can playback video.

This doesn't mean it'll get FFXIII, but it does offer promise for future products.

It basically means that Square Enix can use a proper engine instead of Unreal Engine 3.

Crystal Tools is a pretty sweet concept, they were talking about how even with different architectures, it was a lot easier for development on either platform.

Apparently, the Wii version isn't ready yet though.

True.

I heard they were using proper Unreal Engine 3 for the Red Steel sequal.

So game companies have been proven wrong, just because its weaker doesn't mean the Wii can't handle the engines themselves.

Oh yeah, have to laugh at all the Unreal 3 doubters, the hate was insane.

The Wii version of the engine is working but incomplete according to the lecture (I attended that lecture too), which it's not ready to be promoted yet.

But Red Steel 2 is using it?

is it wrong that Chibi has no plans of buying RS 1, but wants to see if RS2 is good?
