Hardcore is too loosely defined to mean anything... It's funny because there are certain "hardcore" gamers who aren't as "hardcore" as even Wii gamers. Playing well at Halo 3 doesn't mean you can walk all over something like Trauma Center on expert. Just because you rule at Call of Duty 4 does NOT mean you can beat the Tetris expert. What about the Guitar Hero expert? Guitar Hero is a "casual game" but... we who specialize in rhythm gamers aren't REAL hardcore gamers anymore because rhythm games are casual. In fact, NONE of us should be considered hardcore if we compare our paltry skills to the Starcraft pros or the Soul Calibur tournament players. Where do we draw the line? [/rant] Not to say that Nintendo's E3 press conference was very good (it wasn't good and didn't really show new stuff outside of Animal Crossing). The only thing I have problems with are people dismissing an entire console's list, when plenty of exceptions can be noted if they bothered to research/play/rent games.

| Graphics are not everything buddy. We can have hardcore games and have Wii type graphics and be happy. They might not be HD graphics to have a great game!!!

What? lol Manhunt 2? HAHAHAHA that game is shit and that would be the most hardcore game you got. You forget the fact that any game that is on all three consoles usually fare better on the HD boys. Hands down. I do agree that awesome graphics aren't everything. However, the Xbox360 and PS3 can support engines that can draw massive amounts of NPCs/Objects on the screen. Not only that but realistic physics. Also when you throw in a wonky control system like the WiiMote.. all the high end developers won't even atempt to make a game like Oblivion for Wii. Nintendo made a smart choice out there tho. They appeal to the casual gamer.. and there's a billion of them. Oh, and I'm not your buddy, guy. |

1. Why don't you buy a PS3 if you like those types of games? 2. There are a lot of games that aren't cute and cuddly. No more heroes, mad world, manhunt 2(lol), the conduit, deadly creatures, fatal frame, etc. 3. Just because a game is cute and cuddly doesn't make it bad. |

| I did not buy a ps3 bc I do enjoy my Wii a lot. I always buy Nintendo system first before I even think even buying another gaming company system! Second I want a hardcore games that is only on the Wii I should say. I mean look at Xbox360 and PS3. They have exclusive hardcore games just for them and most of the Wii's hardcore games are all three or are on other consoles. manhunt 2 (wii psp, ps2) Medal of honor (xbox360, Wii, PS3) Ea sport games (xobx360, Wii, PS3) ect.. I want a Nintendo only hardcore games and not this crappy dogz and other shit like that. Third There are good games on the Wii like Mario karts, SSBB, Wii sports, Wii play, medal of honor hero 2,Okami, no more Heroes, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure ect.. I enjoy playing those games, but I want games that come out on the ps3 and xbox360 like halo, Gears of war 2, final fantasy, KILLZONE 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Soul Calibur IV, Too Human type of games. |

And I'd say it probably wouldn't be wise to hold out much hope for Nintendo changing their focus this generation. When you stop and look at it you kind of realize that the Wii was made for the casual market. They basically dumbed everything down so as to not intimidate the previous non-gamer and most of those changes have seemingly held the console back in the 'hardcore' market. They chose to forego the processing power and graphics upgrades that MS and Sony went with. While graphics aren't everything it does prevent 3rd party companies from making direct ports of PS3 or 360 games. So that forces them to either go with a PS2 port or they have to remake the game from the ground up with the Wii in mind. However those companies are already spending millions to make the PS3 and 360 versions do they really want to spend millions more to make a seperate Wii version, especially when the top 3 selling Wii games list includes both Wii Play and Mario Party? Obviously their online policies have made a big difference too. Playing online can be something really intimidating for the non-gamer but the hardcore gamer seems to have really taken to online gaming. However once again Nintendo's policies seem to lean much more towards the non-gamer. In most cases they have skipped online play at all or severely gimped the potential a game has for online play, ala Smash Brothers. I think Animal Crossing gives them one last chance to show that they care about online gaming, so if they screw it up I wouldn't expect any further online commitment from them until at least their next console. The Wii Remote while once being hailed as innovative has thus far proven to be nothing more than a controller where half the buttons have been replaced by waggle motions. Perhaps MotionPlus can change that but I still don't see it taking off. So once again they appeal to the non-gamer by making their controller look less intimidating. If you don't usually play games and see a PS3 or 360 controller with all it's buttons vs. a Wiimote which one would they be more likely to inclined to pick up? The main problem here is that everyone except Nintendo seems to feel forced into having motion controls in their games and not a lot of them have seemed all that innovative or even worthwhile. If more companies followed Nintendo's lead in games like Mario Galaxy where they had limited motion control, or games like Smash and Kart where they offer Cube and Classic controller support I think you'd see a few more hardcore games. So sadly, if you're waiting for Nintendo to shift more focus to the 'hardcore' I think you'll be in for a long wait because it's really not the type of game that the Wii was built to focus on.

| Boffo. I agree wholeheartedly. What I find funny is that all the Wiitards get militaristic when you mention the fact that the Wii is for the non-gamer.
