My belief is that an Xbox costs MUCH less to make than a Wii. Why would this be? Is it because of the flash drive? I think we can safely say that it is not. Nor could the built in Wi-fi account for the discrepancy.
My belief is that the Wii is NOT equivalent to the Xbox in prowess, but instead is better which explains why it costs more to make.
I don't know much about the hardware in both systems, but I think that even if the Wii and Xbox DO have the same hardware, it's possible to see why the Wii would cost more to make (all arguments about flash memory aside). Just look at the size of both systems. Putting the same hardware in a much smaller space has got to cost more to make. At least, I'd think so.

on subject...i actually like the update. hoping for a new final smash for tomorrow. i'll say...Meta Knight.

1. I see what you mean now and I completely agree. As I said, I have a 2GB microSD card which cost $25 and it's half the size of a thumbnail. $25 isn't enough to account for the inflation, therefore it must be some other internal parts, ie. the parts that are supposedly equivalent to those inside the original Xbox.

2. I don't know how large WiiWare games are going to be, but I don't expect them to be anywhere near as large as full games. They probably will take up a significant portion of the flash drive, I'll give you that. Deleting and re-downloading is certainly a bad work-around, but I don't think "hordes" of SD cards will ever be necessary especially considering the ever-shrinking price and concurrently ever-growing size of said SD cards. Remember, we're talking about the future here because as we've said, your drive isn't full yet. If Nintendo does put out an external hard drive(which I fully expect, because otherwise what the hell are those USB ports for?), I think it will be large and pretty cheap. If it's expensive and tiny and only Nintendo-brand WiiDrives work with the Wii, then THAT would be milking*.

My belief is that Nintendo didn't design a console that is all that cheap to make by using last-gen technology, but a somewhat underpowered next-gen console at an extremely marketable price during the same generation that Microsoft and Sony tried to go above and beyond.
My belief is that Microsoft and Sony both attempted to get the most bleeding edge technology they could put in a marketably-priced machine in order to bully the others(Nin and M$ for Sony; and Nin and Sony for M$) out of the market entirely.

*Though I don't think the price and cost of the Wii qualifies**. The sum of the cost of the parts is not necessarily equal to the cost of the sum of the parts. It costs to have factories put the Wii together and it costs to design electronics. Besides, what's wrong with profits? Companies stay in business by making profits and Nintendo's 100+ year old trading card business is not the profitable market it once was. Microsoft and Sony are selling consoles at a loss hoping that they'll hook enough people to be able to control the market. They want to milk you later, so they're petting you, cooing and calling you nice things while they slowly pull down your pants and attach the sucker.

**Even this startling evidence of extreme greed doesn't qualify(read under Oceania). I found it while doing a brief search for the current profit on original Xboxes. Milking in this context seems to refer to getting people committed to something and then over-charging for that something. No one has to buy the Wii or the original Xbox. Milking would be something like selling PS4s for $30 and then milking by charging $150 for each game. That's just a personal interpretation though. Maybe it's me.
2. I expect them to be bigger than VC games though, since they are designed from the ground up for Wii and all. Though this is sort of a double-edged sword argument in the first place : if Nintendo wants to release game demos and have a trailer channel they'll need to release an external drive, but seeing how shy Nintendo is towards online I remain doubtful they'll ever get that far. So, if Nintendo wants to release bigger things online, we're trapped into buying external drives, and if they don't add any major DL-able stuff, the flash drive will barely suffice... but we don't get more DL-able stuff. :\

3. Heh, I read that part of your last post wrong, otherwise I would've already agreed. I blame tiredness :P. To touch on the bolded parts:

I used to believe the Wii was about 1.5 times an Xbox. I don't know anymore. MP3 looks great, but could it really not be done on Xbox? If Super Mario Galaxy doesn't impress me than that will officially debunk the claims that Wii is any more powerful than the Xbox in my books.
