Nobody has ever really made a good argument for Sonic being in the game.

Then again, I don't think I have actually heard an argument for Sonic.

Dr. Mario was very unpopular until SSBM. He was only in one game that I recall and it was just a sub-par puzzle game. Waluigi has starred in more games and is Luigi's rival. He deserves a spot in the game a lot more than Dr. Mario could and the only reason you say Dr. Mario isn't uneccesary is because he is in Melee. If he was never in that game you'd say he would also be unneccesary for Brawl.


If Dr. Mario was never in Melee, suggesting him to be in Brawl would be about as feasible and wanted as having Petey Pirahna in Brawl.

What I'm interested to see is whether they've looked at how the pro players only play with fox and link, and figure out a way to balance the combat system out so that character choice isn't an issue (as long as you know how to best use the character).

I found this from Wikipedia, not the greatest of sources, but better than nothing...

"In August 2006, Sakurai and Miyamoto stated that Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog was the most requested third-party character to be included.[26]Tips & Tricks reported that Miyamoto has stated Nintendo has actually contacted Sega regarding this, and that they're awaiting a final decision."

And for my opinion on this:

1. Mario vs. Sonic- As a gamer who was played since the SNES/Genesis days, this sounds epic.
2. Well Known- He would help sell the game for sure, because he is readily known by the masses. This makes him an obvious next 3rd party choice.

My biggest issue with having him would be making him a fast character while still fitting in well. I think it could be done.

What about NiGHTS? I never played that game so I don't know what he would be like... but Sega is coming out with the sequel so it would make sense to add him.
