Thom speaks the truth. Especially the second point. The fourth point too. I couldn't imagine any game going over better online (except for a Blizzard title).

You guys seriously believe that no improvements have been made to console shooters in over a decade? It seems to me that most of the appeal of the old games is nostalgia. But the way you guys are talking, you think people are going to be playing Goldeneye religiously online like any current FPS. Maybe. I just have a hard time grasping that. There's Halo 3, COD4, Team Fortress 2, just to mention a few...hell, there have been plenty of Bond games released since Goldeneye. For one thing, the graphics are going to look severely dated. You don't have to be a "graphics whore" to admit that it's nice to play an FPS with current level graphics. Not to mention the vast improvements in AI over the last decade...plus the improvements in game physics models. The list goes on and on. Don't get me wrong. For it's time, Goldeneye was great. But compared to today's standards it's still quite dated. I mean, people complain about the AI in current shooters...

It's partly nostalgia, but I have played Goldeneye recently in multiplayer and it was the most fun I've had in multiplayer. Everything else may have better physics, graphucs whatever, but they all lack soul and and element of campy fun.

Goldeneye is just fun...

A slight graphic touch up wouldn't go amiss, but if they uploaded it, as is, with online multiplayer, there's a certain age group who would lap it up.

the problem with old games is just that. they are old. Our memory paints a much better picture than reality Thom.

There are VERY few games that truly stand the test of time.

The only ones that come to mind for me are:

actually, thread is coming...

Improvements have been made. There are hundreds of new ideas that could be implemented into GE to make it way better. Has any games actually surpassed it? In my eyes, no. It's not even a nostalgia issue here. Anytime I play GE multiplayer I still think it's one of the best experiences ever (except for the lack of a good sniping level). People still clearly would love to see the game online with multiplayer. Trust me, it would be played a great amount.

Yeah, I still play Goldeneye Multiplayer. It's hard not to have fun when you've 4 people and you're playing Facility or something on slappers only. Love it.

License to kill pistols was the way to go. Or Man with the Golden Gun. I am untouchable in that mode.
