Can you really not differentiate between corporate CYA techniques and proper customer service?

They did do the right thing. They did give people something as saying they're "sorry." Instead of just accepting the gift I see people here bitching that it wasn't right. You guys all miss the point, they didn't have to give any of us anything. They decided they were going to admit their faults and own up to it. If you guys are going to piss and moan about it then frankly I don't think you deserved anything.

If a service I am paying for is down, the proper compensation is for the money I paid for the time that I was not able to use the service. To offer something other than that is just plain silly. If my internet service was down for a week, giving me a $15 long distance calling card isn't the correct way to compensate for the inconvenience. Is this THAT difficult of a concept to understand?

On the same side of that coin. Most ISPs, Cable TV, Telephone or Sat TV providers WILL NOT reimburse you for downtime.

Not for residential service but you can get it on some business plans (even if you use the 'business' plan at home).

If you want instill a look of fear on to a service providers face, start talking about reliability in such a manner.

Haha, yeah right. Good luck getting your service providers to do that! My point still stands, as much as you want more you didn't deserve anything in the first place. MS did not have to give anybody anything. Whens the last time you got money back for a power outage, or for cable outage, or internet outage?.. Yeah, exactly.

Yes, but LIVE is a residential service. Generally a business plan from an ISP costs a lot more then a residential line and for the reason of stability and uptime gaurentees. For example, Shaw (my ISP) has a business package that has a lower bandwidth then my 10Mbit but is about $50 more expensive then my $39.00 connection.

Technically they did not have to. But I think they had practically had to, considering some of the 360's problems. The RRoD issue was made public and they fixed it. They pretty much had it solved and the problem was slowly fading when this happened. I think they offered it because they didn't want to cause another stir. It seems to me MS doesn't care about an issue until it blows up in their face.

As for the underlined part of the quote, never. But those don't last close to 2 weeks, do they? I really don't think MS cared about the issue at the start, especially if you went to their official site, checked the status, forums etc... They were denying the severity of the issue and were just hoping they could fix it with a few hours. But it didn't go as planned and tons of people started to notice it.

Did they have to reimburse us? No. But I feel they only did to save their asses. And when they did, they didn't give us anything worthwhile.

Ugh,

Played this game, and it's just pure trash.

Thanks Microsoft.

You guys seriously sound like a bunch of whiny kids. So, you didn't get what you want. You know what, I'd better stop there before I say anything stupid to get banned.
