Angry Xbox 360 Elite and the RRoD

Having had a look through the various RRoD threads scattered about the forum, I haven't been able to get a handle on the Elite RRoD situation apart from the idea of larger heat sinks providing a parital fix?

I have an Xbox 360 Elite, and last night there was a power surge in my area. All my electric devices went off then came on, apart from the 360, which went RRoD on me. Have turned it off then on, it appeared fine - but I am concerned that something has been damaged internally. I know from reading the threads that the general concensus is that once you have seen the red rings once - it's just a matter of time before your 360 is going to die.

Has anyone had a similar instance? I was hoping that since my RRoD had a definitive cause (rather then just happening out of the blue due to internal problems) it might be that I won't have any more problems?

my old premium RRoD once. The power brick was sitting on a heater, and was near melting hot (accident) After I let it cool, it worked pretty much fine until I traded it in for an elite. Besides me dropping the thing twice, and the disc tray being kind of messed up, the thing worked, and it was like a launch one. I have had some red lights with my elite, not the RRoD, other error messages, but its still kicking.

If it were me in your situation, I wouldnt worry too much. I mean the worst thing that can happen, is it does RRoD sometime down the line, and all you do is call up MS, and they fix it/send you a new one, free of charge.

I had an issue or two with my 360 in the past, but it lasted a long time after that, so I wouldn't worry.

Because of all the reported problems, to most people the RRoD has become more alarming than it should be. Getting the RRoD once after a power outage doesn't mean your 360 has been damaged. It's just a general failure notice, and probably a one-time-thing.

It probably wasn't even technically the RRoD. If it was, I'd imagine the OP would have a different kind of sadness.

you said it was a red ring, but was it the top left, bottom left, and bottom right quadrants, or something else?

The top left, bottom left, bottom right is what's commonly referred to as the RRoD, and what means that there's hardware failure. Was it something else, like just the top 2?

If it wasnt this

Then you really dont have anything to worry about. If it did that right after a power surge, and it has since been working fine, I still wouldnt worry.
