Virgin has entered the online console arena for the first time, launching a console specific version of the Virgin Radio Player for the Wii and PS3 for UK users yesterday. The service will allow users to stream radio content from a network of stations, purchase CDs, concert tickets, and download songs from the Virgin Radio Ticket store.
Virgin spokesperson James Cridland hopes the move will allow Virgin to penetrate a younger consumer. “It’s great for us to achieve another new media first and be the only UK radio station available on both of these massively popular games consoles,” Cridland stated. “People are treating the consoles as part of their home entertainment media centre, and now Virgin Radio will be part of that experience. This platform has great growth potential, particularly among early-adopters and 25-44 audience popular with advertisers.”
