Nothing says crap like a licensed Disney movie. Surprisingly this game didn't suck AS bad as I thought it would. it was still not up to par.
Graphics. I don't care WHAT console you are playing from Wii to 360 it all looks like the same poorly done PS2 game. (except higher res on Wii and 360) All your enemies look identical and your textures are bland and uninspired. Luckily you don't have to look at it a lot cause the camera angle will steer you anywhere BUT the action. This is literally the worse camera angles I have ever dealt with. Worse then Sonic Adventure Worse then Castlevania64 it's horrid. Is it bad? no.... not for PS2... but we all are used to FAR FAR better. The best part of the graphics though is the motion captures. Johnny Depp really does stagger like a retarded Rolling Stone. And I mean that in the GOOD way. Well as good as that CAN be. It suffers from Enter the Matrix syndrome which means it LOOKS a lot more fun then it actually is.
Story. it's pretty faithful to the movie. Which is the nice way of saying the story sucks ass.
Gameplay, here is where the game shines.... or sucks depending on your console. It's a pretty straightforward hack and slash. Except if you have a PS2 or 360 expect it to be a desperate jumble for buttons and a horrid control scheme. Soul Calibur it is not. If you have a Wii it gets interesting. Parry high middle and low and thrust, swing and stab in all the ways you'd expect from a Fencing sim. And believe me the Wii needs one of those since Red Steel failed us. If you are playing this on Wii give it an extra point for controls, and take off for graphics cause they gave you a glorified PS2 version. If it's on 360 your graphics are about 5 (a non blurry PS2) but your gameplay suffers badly from horrible control scheme. If your on PS2, shoot yourself now. If you have the PS3 version congrats on being able to tilt the sixaxis to balance on a beam one time during the game. big whoop.
Sounds okay, the actors all sound drunk and the plot is awful and horribley scripted and their speech is slurred. In other words it's identical to the movie. Much like the characters the sounds are recycled 50 times an hour. God i hope YOU don't play this for an Hour on end.
If you love Pirates of the carribean and want a faithful movie hacknslash..... please buy it used or in a bargain bin. It's worth that.... it's TOTALLY fun enough to rent, but you don't want to waste $50 on this.
My advice is to get bored of it while renting and call it a day. This is mediocrity at it's most mediocre.
